ODE TO COSMO

Cosmo - waiting patiently for a command from his master to eat his bone one night.
Cosmo - sitting proudly near the fireplace in his master's library.

What can one say about Cosmo - a beautiful golden chow-chow that was my son's companion for over 13 years and just recently went home to be with his companion, Georgie. Cosmo was one of a kind! When he was a little guy, he cut his teeth on Brian's windowsill...chewed it so bad Brian had to replace it with something stronger. Brian has always had a "doggie door" for his dogs to go in and out to the fenced-in back yard. If Cosmo heard something over the fence or anywhere near the back yard, he would tear through the house and through the doggie door into the back yard. He would race back and forth along the fence barking at whatever he thought was out there. It was no secret - Cosmo was King of his castle!! One trait that always amazed Brian was Cosmo's habit of taking his nightly Milk-Bone and hiding it in his special place. After he attained a pile just so high, he would retrieve one and eat it at his own time. The new chow Brian got to replace Georgie named Maya discovered Cosmo's cache one day and I guess there was hell to pay from Cosmo. He reigned supreme over Georgie and Maya and provided Brian with a great alarm system by barking if anything seemed out of place. Cosmo also provided Brian with great companionship...always there to greet him when he returned home from work or pleasure.

Now Cosmo has gone to join Georgie in the great Doggie Heaven in the sky, and I suspect he and Georgie are having lots of fun running and playing once again with no worries of cancer or weak legs. He will be greatly missed by his "daddy" and others who knew him.

God's speed, Cosmo. Have a great time in your new home and know you will always be in our thoughts.

A wonderful piece and many thanks. I didn't realize you had the Milkbone-on-leg photo, but it is a classic.

Barbara emailed me those pictures. Glad you liked the blog. Sorry I didn't write one for Georgie, but I did include some references to her in this blog.
