When It's Springtime in the Rockies.......

Today we are cleaning up from the 1st REAL spring snowstorm. It started yesterday around 10 am as rain and quickly turned to heavy wet snow by 2 pm. As I drove home from school yesterday afternoon at 3:30, nothing had been plowed and it was snowing at the rate of 1-1 1/2 inches an hour. Because of the temperature, the rapidly falling wet snow clogged up as slush on the highways, making driving dangerous. Visibility was terrible as it was hard for the windshield wipers to keep up with the wet snow.

The storm ended about 5 am here in Ft.Collins with continued snow into the afternoon further south. It left most of the state of Colorado under a foot of snow with state-wide school closures, snow-laden tree branches, lack of power, and a complete shut-down of DIA. Over 5000 people spent the night at the airport as all flights were canceled. Since this is spring break week for many schools, flight demands were extra high. All roads up into the ski areas were closed as they usually are in a big storm.

This afternoon, the temperatures rose into the high 50s and the melting began!! Out in front of my apartment building, there is a river flowing as the snow melt is so much and so fast, the catch basins can't keep up with the flow of water. I expect by tomorrow night, most of this March storm will be history.....but we are looking at another storm on Saturday!!
Where else but in Colorado??

Cool. Glad you got home safely! At least in Colorado, the sun comes out and it all melts away. Very different from here, huh? We are not so fortunate. Friday we are supposed to reach 30 for a high! GREAT, can't wait. Mother Nature is messing with all of us these days!

Thanks for sending your snow to us!! Woke up this morning to heavy snow and wind. This is after several weeks of spring-like weather and warm temps. Mother Nature can be so cruel. I knew it was too good to be true!
