SUMMER HAS ARRIVED
Summer time in Colorado is much different than in other parts of the country. Here,a day in the 90s feels toasty but very doable as we don't have the woes of humidity to deal with. Wind is a big feature out here most every day due to the mountains. The breezes help blend the heat so it feels good. Everyone carries two things here in Colorado if they go outside the house- sunscreen and a water bottle. Most people here wear a sunhat or baseball cap to keep the sun off their face and neck. I recently purchased a floppy sunhat for occasions where it might be needed. I have a white baseball cap I wear part of the time to school. The mode of transportation out here is a little different, also. This city is loaded with bicyclists...the kind where you make your feet go to give your "a.." a ride! We also have motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, convertibles, etc. It is a delight to sit out on my patio in the evening and not worry about getting eaten alive by mosquitoes! I haven't seen a mosquito since I moved here. This type of weather requires a lot of water usage. Sprinklers are running everywhere and flowers and gardens have to be watered on a daily basis. Although the calendar says summer begins next Monday- I'm convinced our summer started over a month ago. It's weird to step outside my apartment door and hear all the AC units running. I try to limit the usage of mine as it can get expensive. I have an overhead fan here in the living room and a big oscillating fan in the bedroom, so I keep the AC for days nearer 100 degrees-and we will have some of those. The apartment complex just opened the swimming pool, but I don't frequent it as there is no place to get out of the sun. I'm perfectly content to take my iced tea and my geology books out on the patio in the evening and just study out there. Of course, Sasha lays on the patio table with me, but the table is large enough for both of us. Heading off to school....stay cool.
