A Redneck Weekend

This past weekend was gorgeous and perfect for working outside. Pam and Rob used this weather to do some landscaping in their front yard. Their goal this spring is to till up all the flower beds and remove the rocks, roots, etc. before putting down new sod and flowers. The BIG project for the weekend was the removal of an aspen tree stump in front of their front door. Earlier this spring, they had an aspen tree cut down as it was dying. This left a huge unsightly stump which had to be removed so Rob can build a drainage system. They spent hours on Saturday and Sunday digging around the stump and cutting roots as they removed the dirt...in preparation of the removal process. Note the length of one root they removed....it was over 6 feet long! Rob finally said,"Let's do it!" He drilled two long holes down into the top of the stump to attach a chain to. Then he attached the chain to the rear of his truck......and away he went. We were expecting 3 results...either the stump would come out or it wouldn't....or something bad would happen. That stump came out of the hole easier than a dentist pulling a tooth. I spent most of the weekend helping out by doing some chores inside the house to help as Pam is leaving for another business trip Tuesday and they were both very tired at the end of each day. Pam did most of the loading the wheelbarrow and wheeling it to the trailer to take to the dump. They both got minor sunburns due to the sun and wind. We topped off the weekend by gong out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant. Rob has bragging rights at work today as the damn stump is gone!!
