OUT WITH THE OLD......IN WITH THE NEW

2008 was an adjusting year for me.

Last year was the first 365 days I have gone without smoking. Some days weren't easy, but I never gave in to the urges. I thank God and my family for supporting me and helping me through this ordeal, and expect this coming year will be easier.

Last year was the first 365 days I have lived here in Colorado. I am slowly making new friends through my church and friends of Pam and Rob's. It's been hard leaving old friends behind in Maine, but I will always have the memories of being involved in local politics, volunteer organizations, church friends, and neighbors I knew for years and will never forget.

Last year was the first 365 days of several medical changes in my life. My first adjustment here was the altitude. I have always had lung problems due to early childhood pneumonia and 65 years of smoking. The altitude made it hard to breathe and then the past 2 months I have been diagnosed with COPD and emphysema. The change in altitude also played a part in regulating my high blood pressure over this past year. The one positive health issue affected by the warmer weather out here is my polymalgia rheumatica has been much better. Today is the first day of the rest of my life - and I'll take the good with the bad at my age.

One thing that didn't happen in 2008 was the arrival of my new grand- daughter. She , like many packages from UPS, has decided to make a late arrival; but I expect she will be joining the rest of the crowd who have January birthdays!!

Let's hope this new year is the best 365 days any of us have had in a while......I guess there is hope for all of us as the retail stores already have Easter and Valentine merchandise on their shelves!!!

Happy New Year to all of you...and may God bless you all

They do? WOW! That's a little early isn't it. Cheer up, Baby M. will make her 'grand entrance' when SHE is ready and that is all there is to it. Congratulations on your one year of living in Colorado and over a year, now, of not smoking!!! I, for one, are VERY proud of you!

What a beautiful picture - is that near where you live? Congratulations are definitely in order for your 1-year anniversary of quitting. That is a huge obstacle to overcome, but I knew you could do it! I know that everyone in the family is proud of you for this accomplishment, so keep up the good work!! Perseverance and faith are two good words to live by when faced with a difficult challenge...

I am very proud of you for quitting. Also, I will have that bag with me in February. I'm very sorry it has taken so long. Can't wait to see you and the 3 Migliores!
