The Perfect Storm

Well - I think we finally beat Maine and Michigan this time!! It started storming here at dawn on Thursday morning, and FINALLY stopped during the night last night. It rained hard with intermittent hail all day Thursday and into the night when it turned to snow. Friday we got heavy wet snow all day until sometime Friday night when it turned back to rain. It was still raining last night when Rob brought me home. During this 3-day storm, we got rain, freezing rain, hail, sleet, snow......and thundershowers and even tornadoes in one section of the state. We ended up with only 4.4" of snow, but other parts of this state weren't so lucky. Denver got 10" of snow while Rollinsville got a whooping 56.3 inches of lovely wet snow!! Thousands of people are without power throughout the state. Many major highways have been closed for two days due to travel conditions and avalanches. Rob was going to go skiing yesterday, but the highways were still closed that he needed to travel. The ski areas are about 2 hours from here so the weather is usually colder and stormier nearer the mountains. This forenoon it is bright sun and currently 55 degrees...needless to say, all our snow is long gone. The good part about this storm is our resourvoirs are filling up once more and will continue to do so as that snowmelt from the mountain areas reaches the foothills. Our fire danger is now gone and I'd say we are ready for spring! Bring it on.....it's time to put winter to bed and revel in the spring and summer seasons.

Looks like you had seven of the major weather groups covered. Must have made for interesting travel conditions. Cold and raining here today with snow in our forecast this week - enough already!!! Brian already raked the front and back yards, and put away the snow shovels. Mother Nature can just be so cruel....

It was a very interesting 3 days to say the least. Even here in Ft.Collins, the snow mixed with the rain pouring down on top of it made for some very treacherous slushy driving. I was out Thursday in the pouring rain all day as I had several meetings that day including school and an eye doctor's appointment. The difference between here and the U.P. is ours will be totally gone by Tuesday as it is supposed to be 75 degrees that day. Our trees are all budded out and we have flowers blooming in some places.

Well, sorry that Rob couldn't get some spring skiing in, but like you said, it will be all gone by Tuesday. In the Northeast, we are not that lucky!! Enjoy!!!!

I was able to go yesterday. Best spring conditions I've experienced. Not ridiculously awesome conditions I would have expected from 34"/3d at the resort, but still good. Based on the warm temps yesterday (41F), I expected the snow consolidated a bunch and was icy this morning.

At least my grass is nice and green now.
