Birthdays For All

This weekend is a time for celebrating here in Fort Collins. Our country is 233 years old today, while Daddy Migliore is....a fraction of that today. Baby Siena will be 6 months old Monday. Yesterday, my son-in-law back East turned 56. As you can see, Siena is dressed appropriately for the 4th of July. We all went out to breakfast this morning, including Arlene. This afternoon, Pam and Rob have a barbecue planned with a bunch of friends in their age group. It is currently pouring very hard, so I hope Rob got the tarp up over the patio before it started.
Each of us places our own value on what this day means to us. For Rob, it is his birthday. For many people across the country, it is a 3-day weekend with barbecues, road races, picnics, swimming, and other outdoor activities. To me, as an American Government student currently, it means the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by 55 revolutionaries known as the 2nd Continental Congress. This vote meant independence from the ,then, most powerful nation - Great Britain.
Many communities will celebrate this day with parades, fireworks, flag waving, and festivals. However you choose to celebrate - take a moment to remember what this day meant to the colonists of 1776 and what they eventually fought for in the War of Independence....something you and I take for granted....the defense of their liberty.

Siena looks adorable in her cute little outfit! How come they don't make cute clothes like that for us grown-ups??! Actually, we would probably look pretty silly in that outfit, but it's just the principle of it.
