As you can see by the pictures, I am very busy today working on my research paper for American Government. My topic is hunger in America and what the government is doing about it. We have to have at least two pages of the paper plus the bibliography page finished and on his electronic desk by midnight tonight! I have finished the bibliography page as you can see, and am now starting the first two pages.

You would be amazed at how many adults and children here in America go to bed hungry each night. The "land of milk and honey" is not the richest country in the World when it comes to providing enough food for its citizens. Over 30 MILLION people living in America are not able to get enough food to eat on a daily basis....partly due to the economic crisis and partly due to price inflation. America feeds those who come from other countries seeking political asylum, yet they let their own citizens continue needing and wanting and needing. The sad part of this story is it is the children, elderly, and the working poor who suffer the most.

My job, in this research paper, is to find out what the government is currently doing to aid this situation and what they plan to do in the future as more of our society will be made up of the elderly and children. I have contacted a Maine Senator, CNN, and the White House web site so far help with my research. The AARP also has a lot to say on this issue as it effects the elderly.
I know most of my family is fortunate not to have to be concerned about this problem. However, always remember....most of us live one paycheck away from poverty in today's economy. The next time you hear about your local food pantry needing help or the post office doing their annual food drive, try to help out the less fortunate.
My goal is to learn more about this topic and to pull up my 80 I got in the midterm so I end this semester with a good GPA. I couldn't transfer my 3.4 GPA from Maine so have to begin all over again. I'm aceing the other class I'm taking so I hope this paper puts me over the top. Will let you know later how I did.

Good luck on the paper. It's hard to believe that hunger is a problem when there are so many overweight and obese people in this country. And the fact that childhood obesity is a nation-wide epidemic. I think the real problem is not how much or how little people are eating, but that they are eating the wrong foods, and not getting the proper nutritional benefits to be healthy and physically fit. Too much junk food and sugar.
All of your observations are true. However, I have documented proof that all of my facts are true, also. Pam and I are trying an anti-inflammatory diet for 6 weeks. I need to lose 5 pounds in 6 months to stay off of cholesterol medicine, and Pam is trying this to not only lose some weight but to rid her body of excess pain which her doctor's have attributed to stress partly. This has been a tough week for her with Rob's mishap plus having to take on most of the household duties, care for a 6 month old, and work.
Anyway, I have changed a few of my diet choices and portion control which I hope helps. My BMI is in an obese category for my height and my bad cholesterol is high. We'll see what happens.
I wasn't saying at all that your facts aren't true (I am well aware of the problems of hunger in this country). I was just looking at it from another perspective, and I most definitely think that obesity and the related health problems that result from it, are just as big a problem in our society right now. Have no idea what an "anti-inflammatory diet" is?
