Happy Turkey Day To All

Just a memo to say "Happy Thanksgiving" to everyone. There is much hustle and bustle as families are getting ready to go to Grandma's house or preparing for a family dinner at home. Our weather for this week is fine for traveling...if you can afford to pay for your luggage (there is an extra surcharge besides the regular charge per bag for the holiday travelers). Grocery stores are packed with last minute shoppers stocking their pantries for the coming festivities. I suspect the day after Thanksgiving will be even worse as Black Friday has all their pre-Xmas sales.

I won a complete Thanksgiving dinner through a raffle at school, but will be spending Thanksgiving with Pam and her family at a friend's home. I plan to roast my chicken (I don't care for turkey so asked for a roaster) tomorrow so I can have leftovers for this coming weekend. The problem with eating out is there are no leftovers!! I cooked my squash last night and made my home-made cranberry sauce yesterday afternoon. Pam is making a squash/apple pie and a scalloped potato casserole for us to take to our holiday feast.

I'm on holiday break this week, but have plenty to do with end of semester projects, final exams, etc. coming up in the next two weeks. My fall semester ends on December 14th and then I'm off until January 19th. I expect I'll have a busy spring as I'm registered for 3 classes this semester.

Although the economy is bleak and many people are out of work, there is still much to be thankful for. Having one's health is far more important than having a job. Currently my family members are all well to my knowledge. Brian Veale is still recuperating from surgery and Kendra will soon be home from the hospital where she has resided since her birth 4 1/2 months ago. Three of my family are unemployed at the moment, but no one is homeless and no one has a terminal illness to my knowledge. I hope each and every one of you pause a minute or two on Thanksgiving to say a prayer for our military people overseas who are protecting American soil, and thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed on you this past year.....and say a prayer of thanks for the cook!

There are many homeless people all around us that may not be in our families or someone we know. During Brian's first hospitalization, he had two different roommates who were both homeless men. One of them had been living in a tent for 5 months. We need to pray for homeless people all over our country, and be thankful that we have nice warm shelter. Since you don't cook for Thanksgiving, perhaps you could take that complete dinner you won and donate it to a needy family or bring some of it with you to Pam's friend's home to share.

Every street corner here in Ft.Collins has a homeless person standing on it begging for food, shelter, etc. I even saw a woman with a walker and cane on the street corner last week as I rode home from school. She looked so pathetic. As for the Thanksgiving dinner I won at school - I eat more than one day a year. I have already cooked the roaster, squash, cranberry sauce, and pie; and will be using them to eat from the rest of this week. No need for the food bank this month
