Modern Communications
Isn't it amazing how many ways we can communicate with each other today? Snail mail (which most people have forgotten how to do), blogs, FaceBook, MySpace, emails, texting, IM, etc. At this moment I suspect a new way is in the hopper being developed. I once was told by a family member that I was too old to be on Face Book and shouldn't be on that web site. Poppycock - I say! What determines the age of a participant on any of these communication sites?? We have discussed some world-changing topics on FB lately including which way to load your toilet paper, two things you have always wanted to do but haven't done, miracles at a church from the past, updates with people I haven't been in touch with for over 30 years, etc. These sites allow all of us to express our inhibitations and just communicate with one another. Pictures on these sites are also enlightening.....especially considering how far away many of us are from each other. I am old-fashioned to a degree as I still enjoy receiving snail mail; however, I'm also modern in that I enjoy staying in touch with people I'm sure would never bother to write me 2-3 times a week. I enjoy staying in touch with friends from my younger years and even school friends of my children. And an important point worth mentioning is NO POSTAGE to send a "letter". Here's to many more ways to communicate...and by the way, how DO you load your Toilet paper rolls? Many of you have already answered that question on FB but for those who don't participate....see what you are missing!!

So True!!! I load mine to come down the front, not down the wall. Over the top, you might say!
Our toilet paper is always over, not under. If someone puts it the other way, I have to change it as it just bugs me! Who started that topic??
Brian has a LONG list of responses to this question along with several other topics he deems valuable world changing data. Did you see his story about putting mittens on the church bell at East Brunswick Baptist church? See what you are missing by not being on Face Book?
Yes, I agree that Facebook and these other sites are a good way for people to "keep in touch" with friends and family. However, they can also have negative aspects as well, such as people becoming addicted to being on these sites 24/7. And the Myspace incident where the young girl committed suicide after a horrible woman posed as a boy and ridiculed and berated the poor girl. That certainly has nothing whatsoever to do with "communication" now does it?? We also all have e-mail and cell phones to communicate with each other. I have had a blog now for several months, and other than you and Barbara, I rarely see a comment from anyone else, so that tells me that the rest of my family (who are the reason I started the blog in the first place to keep in touch and let people know what's going on with us) don't even bother to ever read it. How did you and everyone else survive before Facebook and MySpace came along?
Not sure, but if you want "responses" to your comments, you need to be where the rest of your family - on Face Book. Several people on your husband's side of the family, several of the Crockers, all of my children, 4 of my grandchildren, etc. I usually get 6-7 hits on my blog each time I change it which is normal for blogs now that FB, MySpace and Twitter have come out.
P.S.Brenda...you can get negative aspects from anything we do in life including going to church, riding in an automobile, etc. FB provides communication, pictures, and games for all ages. It changes 3-4-times a day compared to blogs that are sometimes left on for 1-2 weeks.
Hmmmm.....you are comparing the possible negative aspects of Internet web sites to going to church??? Wow, that's a stretch and thensome. I thought going to church was a good thing that unfortunately not enough people bother with these days. I just think that most people who spend hours and hours on these sites would be much better off doing things such as exercising; getting outdoors; volunteering in their community and schools; spending more time with their families (in person!), etc. I haven't heard you mention your senior group or church in quite a while, so I have to wonder if you are spending less time in those places where you would benefit much more, and more time on your computer "chatting" and such.
I am well aware of the people on Brian's side of the family who are on FaceBook. I am also aware of several who are not. My mother-in-law doesn't even own a computer or cell phone, and she lives a very fulfilling and busy life. I also know that one close relative of Brian's refuses to be on FaceBook because of the fact that everyone knows everyone else's personal business and thoughts. Nothing is private or sacred once it's been put on these sites, including pictures which may come back to haunt a person in the future. I still say that there are much more negative aspects to these sites than there are positive!
To each his own!!
