As most of you know, Pam is in her 32nd week of pregnancy. The baby weighs about 3 and 1/2 pounds and seems to be right on for measurements and activity. Her baby shower is this coming Saturday and 5 of us are scurrying around to finish decorating, wrapping, and preparing foods for the festive gala. Yesterday, Pam and I made swaddling blankets for the baby. Pam got 4 different patterns of flannel to cut, trim, press a seam onto, and sew on her sewing machine. We spent most of the afternoon working on this project. It has been a long time since I've even seen a sewing machine...let alone used one. I chose the ironing/pressing of the seams which made Pam's job of sewing them easier.
Rob was busy over on the futon shopping for tires for his pick-up truck on his laptop....to keep the truck safe for baby's transportation. He did most of the physical work of preparing the nursery with an overhead light, wall switches, painting, and constructing furniture pieces. Now it was time for the feminine input. The swaddling blankets we were making are so much better than the little receiving blankets you buy in the store. Pam demonstrated to me how to use a swaddling blanket as they were taught at their baby class last Saturday. Reminds me of when she used to wrap up her Cabbage Patch dolls. It really felt good to be actually making something with our hands as opposed to using plastic to purchase something which would probably only last half as long. Pam has made a lot of things already from her knitting bag for the baby from booties to toys; sweaters; hats... and now the blankets. This baby is going to be so lucky to have two such gifted and conscientious parents. Their idea of "spoiling the baby" does not involve spending lots of money for "things". I think these two have their heads "screwed on straight" and will make excellent parents.

Here, here! And good job to Pam and Rob, for including the grandmother too! You two get an Atta-boy! Barbara
Hope the shower is lots of good fun and fellowship. Please know that even though we can't be there in person due to the many miles separating us, we are there in spirit, and we wish Pam and Rob all the best and God's blessings as they look forward to the birth of their daughter!
