The Senior Saints group at my church have an activity every month. This month we went to an alpaca ranch in Loveland and then to lunch. Since I had never seen an alpaca, this was indeed an adventure for me. There were 12 of us in the group and we all had a fabulous time. The husband and wife who owned the ranch gave us a guided tour of the 5 acre ranch and explained all facets of the alpaca. After the tour, we all went inside to see products that have been made from alpaca yarn and to actually feel the "blanket" that was sheared from an alpaca earlier this week. They currently have 22 alpacas including 6 babies called "caci". One alpaca by itself will die as they are a herding animal and desire being in a group. They require very little food as they are grazers, yet a person living in the city could raise a pair of female alpaca in a back yard....if it's zoned properly. Contrary to popular belief, alpacas rarely spit...only during breeding time. After the female becomes pregnant, she spits at all males for at least 30 days!! Hmmmm....sounds like most females.
After we left the ranch, we went to Perkins Restaurant/Bakery for lunch and fellowship and devotions. The food was all home cooked and the pastries were delicious. The two men in our group were truly Saints to put up with the antics of 10 women! It was definitely a day of fun and fellowship.
